The implications for US democracy.
1 The senate had already considered the trial was constitutional. The question had been asked and answered. Mitch McConnell chose to ignore the senate's decision. 2 Mitch McConnell himself was responsible for the lateness of the impeachment and following trial. 3 This means that a senator may legally act in open bad faith on an important decision. 4 The trial itself is partisan as it stands, instead of senators as a jury the constitution should be changed to use standard jury processes, choosing jurors from the country's citizens. 5 Mitch McConnell stated that Trumps guilt was clear, but he has blocked any pathway for Trump to be held to account, enabling future person's of power to get away with such actions and breaking many of the constitution's efficacy for its citizens. 6 The upshot is also to enable undue pressure to bear on members of the government from considerations beyond those of the issues of the day, and to allow open corruption of government behavior. 7 It opens the way for further insurrection and coup attempts with a certain amount of impunity.
