Covid has instigated some unusual discussions. One I have had more than once is that lock downs are worse than dealing with the virus because economics and mental health. These arguments tend to start from a point of view and gather reasons to the point of view to defend it. To be scientific means to look at data and see where it goes but that is difficult.
Consider
Does a lock down cause excessive mental health and economic cost, beyond the cost of not locking down?
Data needed:
Country by Country : data for prior to the pandemic on social stress levels, deaths, mental health, economic indicators; for a lock down period, data on social stress levels, deaths, mental health, economic indicators and success or failure of the lock down, including recovery value on a success; for a no lock down scenario, the same indicators, duration of ongoing effects over time. And somehow make that data comparable across many situations.
Can we start by people trying to gather data from reliable sources for all this and we can see what is going on without as much argument bias.
